Social Fraternities?

Alright here is a question that will have a lot of people with negative responses. I want to start a social fraternity in Australia, more specifically, Gold Coast Region, like Bond and Griffith Universities. I have had some ideas on how to restructure the idea of the Fraternity so it will fit well with the way schools are structured there.

Also, I'd like to express the fact that I don't totally agree with the idea of a fraternity here. I don't believe that drinking and beating each other up or hazing are better bonds for brotherhood. My whole idea is that we should be able to forge a bond with people that share our ideals and beleifs.

This new and revolutionary idea of the fraternity would encompass many more service hours to the community, school, and country at large. Not to mention instill ideals of camaraderie, responsibility, and leadership. Anyone willing to listen to my ideas or have any other constructive ones can email me at siebert.paul@yahoo.com

  1. This is Australia, we don't want to be like America so please don't try.

You can have camaraderie, leadership and responsibilty without having stupid fraternities.

  2. You never heard of Rotary then?

  3. As an Australian, I really struggle to understand the purpose of a fraternity. I think that perhaps it is the name 'fraternity' that gives us an instantly negative view. Perhaps if you called it something else (eg, a service group) would more serve your purpose.

Australian Uni's have social and service groups already, we just don't call them Fraternities, and they are not exclusive (I don't know if all fraternities are exculsive?) Perhaps if we Aussie's were educated about a fraternity and what it's purpose is, we may feel more favourably towards one.

  4. i live on the gold coast. and got accepted to griffith.but deffered. most of my friends go to griffith and bond and i dont see it as a bad idea. only thing is that the movies pertray not a nice outlook on fraternities and most aussies dint understand why american universities have them.
