What is the length of time a person can remain unemployed without jeopardizing their future social security benefits? How is the time measured? Thanks

  1. 40 quarters for your lifetime. There is nothing in the law concerning consecutive quarters.


  2. A quarter IS 3 months.  SS benefits are not affected by a gap in employment however disability benefits ARE.
