How many times can I apply for a Social visa? Is it okay to apply again after exiting Indonesia for one (1) week only? I am staying with my domestic partner who is working in Jakarta. Thanks.

  1. Joshua just gave a nonsensical answer. I'd take what he says with a grain of salt because he is obviously doped up on something. Don't go to immigration by yourself to do an extension. Just call an agent to pick up your passport at your home, office or hotel and have them look after it. It'll cost about 500.000 - 700.000 depending on the agent's and the immigration official's degree of greed.

Regarding the amount of times you can apply for a social visa, I believe it is unlimited. You could also get a multiple entry business visa through an agent, which would save the hassle of constantly having to reapply for social visas. That would be my suggestion.

All you need for a social visa is a sponsor. Could be a close Indonesian friend, Indonesian family member or spouse, an Indonesian school you might be studying with, etc. In reality, if you use an agent, you won't even need a sponsor letter from anybody. They'll take care of all for you. It most definitely doesn't cost 3-4 million. Some agents can get you the visa in Singapore in 1 day, and this is a good deal because Singapore hotels and restaurants are stupidly priced. So the pumped up agent's fee winds up saving you money. But it is much much lower than 3-4 million. I believe the last time I paid SG$75.00. Might even have been less. But I had to wait 3 days and waste a lot of cash in Singapore.

To get a business visa, the agent should look after things the same way. But the sponsor would be a registered, legitimate business in Indonesia. The cost is more for a multiple entry, but winds up saving you money.

Don't bother getting a KITAS. It isn't worth the BS or cost if you're not going to be working here. If you wind up working here, make sure your employer pays for your KITAS, all costs, including flights in and out of the country. They can also get the kind of KITAS where you don't even have to leave the country for 5 years. Just renew within the country. At their expense, of course.

As far as I know, there is no such thing as a multiple entry social visa so yes, you would have to get another visa if you leave the country. Just get another one while you're out of the country. Shouldn't be a problem. I have never heard of anybody having problems with this. Then again, if the guy at the immigration counter is low on lunch money, he may make it an issue. 50.000 or so should take care of the 'issue'.

Your best bet is the Indonesian embassy in Kuala Lumpur. Although good luck finding an agent in Malaysia. Ir's cheaper to stay there and the people who work at that embassy are far nicer than at any other I've been at.

  2. You can reapply for a social visa 2 times while in the country that last as much time as you were originally given.

Go to the department of immigration if you want to renew your visa, but be far warned you will have to pay 3 to 4 million rupiah for this.

You can also apply for a kitas that last for 1 year. However You will have to find an agent. You can find an agent in the yellow pages. The usual fee is 10 to 15 million rupiah. Plus additional fees, especially the last fee which is 10 million rupiah you pay to BKPM each year.

  3. You can apply as many as you like to.

But once it expired you gonna have to exit Indonesia first, say to Singapore and get back in.
