Social Work degree??

What kind of social work degree do you need to work as a foster care social worker? How many years of college... stuff like that? any info would be a HUGE help

  1. You will need a Masters of Social Work in most states (you may be able to get a job with a Bachelors of Social Work in some states).  

    Now if you do you BSW (which is a 4 year Bachelor degree) you will be eligible to apply for advanced standing in a MSW program (which allows you to do your MSW in one calendar year).  So in essence you can get to your MSW in 5 years.

    Now if you do your BA in any other field your MSW will take you 2 years  - A total of 6 years.

More than likely you can get away with a BSW-however, like the other poster said, if you get a degree in BSW you will be at advanced standing for grad school.  You might as well go for your MSW-you'll get paid more and have more options open to you.  It depends on what exactly you wanna do in the foster care system that will determine how much schooling you'll need.
