Social anxiety medicine. Please help?

My social worker referred me to this guy to prescribe me medicine for social anxiety. May 29th i have an appointment to see him. Do you think he would prescribe medicine to me that visit? Or is it going to take me a couple of visits? Whats going to happen ?

  1. that depends on what type of practitioner he is, a doctor of medicine or psychiatry...

    but he may start you on something just to see how you respond to it before you see him a second time.

    in the mean time you can try St. John's Wart. it helps some people with anxiety.

    it's a natural herb so you can buy it at any store.

    it does interfere with some other meds so check with the pharmacist or your doctor before you start taking it.

  2. I would avoid taking Paxil.  It causes serious side effects in 25% of patients including suicidality.

    There are many lawsuits both settled and pending.  It is not a drug that should be prescribed.

    Social anxiety can take a while to treat.  Don't fall for any claims of quick cures.
