Social h**l question?

hypothetical situation: youve recently been in some way scarred/disfigured, not to an extreme level, but so much that you now feel ugly and freakish.

question: do you a) disappear from social life and eek out a solitary existance, playing solitaire, living online. keeping your pride and waiting for some cure/deliverance which may never come. (or it might we dont know)

or

b) continue socialising only to have friends turn their backs and disassociate, gradually pushed down the social ladder, relegated to the level of the weirdos, outcasts, nerds, and geeks gradually becoming one yourself and having your pride slowly and painfully diminished.

lol i did say it was a hellish question.

  1. You act like its one or the other. Seal is disfigured but he makes more money than most americans do. Its possible to have a disfigurment and not be banished from society.

  2. "Dr. Lechter...Dr. Lechter..."

Thank God I live in Santa Cruz.  We adore our freaks, they have a home here.  So, I'd get through it, I'd be okay.

    Whew.  That was close.

  3. Your first choice, at least, spoke to your own choices of how to live your life.  The other was more of a social commentary on how others would treat you...

  4. Who says nerds are freaks? And what is so wrong with freaks? I'd continue chatting with society because people wouldn't care is I was 'scarred' or 'ugly'. Freaks make up today's world and normal people are too boring and have no personality.

  5. My friends would not do that...this is where a certain level of maturity comes into play.  My friends are social workers and we are used to dealing with society's road kill....so to us, those whom others view as damaged contain the most valuable intrinsic worth...and teach us our most valued life lessons
