Could someone explain the social impacts of mobile phones in the UK?

mobiles have ushered in a new era of communications.  we're in touch 24/7. this is  good as our whereabts can be known.  when in trouble we can call for help at anytime, anywhere.  no phone booth to look for.  when walking alone, we can pretend to be talking - to stave off stalkers. there r so many benefits as compared to non-benefits.  if we want privacy - just switch it off.  oldies / grannies by using mobiles can tell the youngies their whereabouts / health concerns etc; unless of course its an immediate heart attack! this is where with or without a mobile it makes no diff.  

children too can be tracked / traced etc.  it helps in parenting.
