Question:

Social security citizenship status when married to an American citizen?

I would like to collect social security benifits as I am of age, but am not an American citizen and while I was admitted to the US legally, I do not have any documentation. I do however have a Social Security number and have been paying it up over the years.

Does the fact that I am married to an American citizen for 40 years help? If not, will school documents help or what documents will I require?

  1. As you have SSN, you can contact to nearest Social Security Administration/Office.

    - They will guide you about the benifits.

You can get more information from below link:

    http://www.ssa.gov/

    All the best.

  2. You can find out if you are eligible for social security benefits by taking this online questionnaire:

    http://connections.govbenefits.gov/ssa_e...

  3. They will ask for your green card. Just because you were admitted into the US legally doesn't mean that you can live without documents. What is your status in the US?

  4. If you have SS, then most likely you can contact the SS office and they will tell you the procedure to apply.
