Social security number as an ID?

If Congress had not authorized the use of the ssn as identification do you think we would have the identity theft problem that we have today?

  1. you are operating under the assumption that ID theft is something NEW. its not, it just got easier with the internet and the computer...


  2. Criminals will find a way to make easy money.  If not through SS#, then through some other way to steal identities.

    It's the criminal mind that's to blame, not the congress for this one.  Congress does enough other s***w ups daily.

  3. Depends. Whatever ID would be have been used as a substitute might be equally vulnerable.  

  4. There will always be dishonest people, no matter what system is in use, there are corrupt people who will find a way to commit crimes.

  6. Definitely less of a problem

    Some countries such as the Philippines where they don't have a single number used for identification such as SSN don't have the problem of identity theft. In fact many Filipinos here on YA post their social security system number because that number is not connected to anything other than their social security
