i lost my military dependent id which has my and my husbands social security #s on it. i've already placed a fraud alert on our credit files so no credit can be attained with our identity. But there are still other things that can be done with our socials... what else can i do aside from checking my credit report every so often?

  1. I would also let your banks know as well, as well as anywhere you have an account that uses $ (mortagage institution etc etc)--that stuff does not go through the 3 credit trackers, and possibly the passport office.  YOu could always pay for a membership for a year in one of those identity watch groups as well.

  2. Call Social Security Fraud Dept toll free @ 1-800-269-0271.

  3. aside from making sure you watch your credit reports like a hawk, i don't know that there's anything else you can do....  sorry.  that really sucks.  why would they put your ss# on your military id?  that seems kind of risky.   it's like losing your wallet with your drivers liscense and your ss card in it....
