  1. It is a form of identification that they seem to favor.

  2. It's not tied to your citizenship, no.

It's a form of ID that some DMV offices can ask to see to establish identity when issuing government ID.

What is your status in the US? Are you a citizen? If not, your passport, immigration documentation and birth certificate could be used. It really depends on your DMV.

  3. It's important if you want to work.  Every citizen MUST have a social security number in order to pay taxes and to collect social security benefits.  You are required to apply for it.

  4. Yes, your SSN is vital for all citizens and legal residents & workers. You must have a Social Security card to work, open a bank account, etc.  If you were born here, your parents were required to obtain your SSN before you turned 2 y.o. to claim you as a dependent on their tax returns.

If you do not have your SSN, either you were not born here and are here illegally, or your parents were illegal aliens and could not get you an SSN at birth, or your parents failed to properly obtain your SSN & citizenship as their dependent child on their immigration/citizen application.

  5. How do you expect anyone to answer you when you have not even said what country you are in and what your status is.This is a world website, which many posters don't seem to realise, and many countries have those same documents..
