  1. At my school the color guard was looked at as a group that was semi cool. As a general rule the people in color guard were well liked by the student body and lots of people wanted to belong but were reluctant to join because they didn't like the fact that school colors wern't being worn. (at least at football games because a game is about school spirit not the band's show)  Not wereing school colors or using school colors for the flags is a major turn off to most people.  Color guard people are not wanna be cheerleaders.  the two sports are very different and really can be compared against each other.  Oh and band kids always make fun of guard that kind of comes with the territory.

  2. colorguard in my school is very high in the popular status (actually we dont really have a status like that it is more so about we are very well known and liked) we have more fans than our cheerleaders and our cheerleaders do very well in competitions (well the varsity does) and i dont go to a very preppy school actually i have more of the ghetto school...but still with very great amount of diversity...go and try out and encourage your friends to join as well...they will soon learn there is a lot to love in colorguard

  3. well, my school didn't have cheerleading. but it had a really good colorguard, 6th out of 60 something (A class) in wgi 2003, 3rd out of 40 something (open class) 2004, 13th out of 50 something (open class) 2007, people made fun of the sport but didn't make fun of the people in it, but really they didn't mean any harm because most of the time they would do it just to be funny. but that was winter guard not marching guard, don't waste your time with colorguard in a marching band, you'll have a better experience with winter guard, if your school has one that is. but as for the whole "cheerleader wanna be" thing, the only thing colorguard and cheerleading has in common is dance, everything else is pretty much different, and a lot less preppy in my opinion. but my school's social statuses were all out of wack, the so called "band geeks" really weren't geeks at all, we had a lot of "popular" people in band, and everyone loved them. but where i'm from the band and colorguard do well in everything.
