  1. 1.  Middleclass

1a.  I don't have tons of money rolling in, tons in savings, and I'm not driving a mercedes, buying gucci, or flying to paris three times a year.  However, I'm not on food stamps or welfare.

    2.  Caucasion

    2a.  No

    3.  Female

    3a.  No

    4.  You see things differently depending on your social status.  I work with people who have grown up with far less and they've talked about seeing people doing all kinds of crazy things so they have money for food, diapers, etc.  They've seen more crime because they grew up in the inner city, but seen far less in terms of things like museums, or other tourist spots.  I imagine someone with more affluence then myself has seen more of the world than I have, but at the same time isn't going to Target or Walmart on a regular basis.

  2. I am middle classed.

Because my income is 64,000 a year.

    32

    white

    No

    Female

    No

I feel like being in the middle class is the hardest class to be in.  We make too much money to qualify for any help from the government  like with the cost of heating our homes and healthcare.  People who make less money and get assistance at times live better than we do.  Not all, but some don't work , get free housing, free heat, free food, free healthcare and whatever else the government gives away.  It seems wrong.  Shouldn't the working people who are trying so hard to do it on their own be rewarded?  Sometimes we feel punished because we aren't poor enough.  Well we aren't rich either!!!

  3. 1. Middle class (upper middle)

1a. I am still dependent on my parents and they have enough wealth to put me through college but not enough to live very luxuriously. Also, I'm going through vocational training for a career that will pay 60-80K

    1.b. 21

    2. White

2a. Yes, I do. As a sociology student, I understand dynamics of privilege. And I know that I was born into my social status. So all I can do is try my hardest, not take anything for granted, and try to help those who are not so lucky.

    3. Female

3a. No, it doesn't. It could have if my father or any teachers had been sexist, but I was fortunate. I've never felt discriminated against because of my gender.

    4. My life has completely revolved around my middle/upper-class background. The kind of education I have been able to obtain, the kind of toys I could have as a kid, the kind of food I ate, the things that I consider important in life, all have been influenced by my social status.

I just want to say that answer #2 annoys me. Class status is ONLY relative to economic wealth (and prestige), not behavior. I've seen people on this forum refer to their "class-status" as their social position in high school, so please stop doing that people! It's purely about finances and prestige.

    1a. .. I don't care

    1b. .. Under 300

    2. .... 50 metre

  5. 1. What do you consider your social status to be?

    Lowerclass or working poor.

1a. why? Because I live paycheck to paycheck,  I work and get no where, I am not on any form of welfare. (And I don't want to be)

1b. what age are you? 45

    2. what race are you? White

2a. do you feel that your race has to do with what social status you are in? No

    3.what gender are you? Female

3a. does your gender have to do with what social status you are in? Yes -  Females are discriminated at the work place. IE: Lower pay scale and promotions are based on looks.

4.how do you feel the social status you are in has effected your life?  I have no money for fun things.

  6. 1. Middle class

1A. We live in a pleasant community, in a very nice house. However, we have some minor money troubles.

    1B. 15

    2. White

    2A. Yes.

    3. Female

    3A. No.

    4. It affects everything. Money troubles lead to stress, stress leads to yelling. Maybe my parents wouldn't have divorced. Just maybe.

We'd live in a different house if we had more money, and attend a richer school. Maybe I'd be smarter because of this rich school.

Or maybe I wouldn't be as smart if I had attended a much poorer school.

If I lived in a poor neighborhood, I probably wouldn't have many good friends as influences to become a good person.

It all depends, of course. But money status can have a huge impact on people's lives.
