Do you think Americans today believe that our country is responsible for taking up "the white man's burden"? and what do you think our role should be concerning countries that are less advanced and/or wealthy?

  1. This is just my own opinion, but I honestly think that we do.  We tend to go and get ourselves into stuff that's not of our concern just to prevent Communism, the absolute enemy of Capitalism.  The nation in general is almost in a state of arrogance, when it really shouldn't be.

  2. I agree with Oh Stop Complaining. Its the duty of the west to be its best. We are good at thinking up solutions to problems and inventing things. Why did Europe conquer most of the world from the 14th century onwards? Because they thought up the most weapons and ideas. I'm not saying we are superior, but that historically is our strength. Instead of ruling with an iron fist and an steel rifle, we should rule with open ideas and help. That's what we are good at. The lesser nations are good at providing resources, and maintain traditions. That seems to be their strength. I mean some of those African and South American tribes have traditions we all have forgotten. They do have things to teach us. If we all realised this, maybe we wouldn't fight so much.
