I am trying to write a paper on how social work is related to the study of economics. Any suggestions on how they related?

  1. At its core social work is concerned with social justice - it has been argued that you can not have social justice unless you also have economic justice.  Therefore at some level social work is concerned with the equitable distribution of resources - or access to resources.  This puts social work clearly in relationship to the economic system and why social workers must have more than a cursory understanding of the economic system.  For example understanding the inter-relationship of the various forces at play today (the war, inflation in the energy sector - leading to inflation in other sectors - and recession in the housing and credit sectors and the impact it has on other sectors.  Only through understanding this can one begin to consider how those in poverty and near poverty will be effected by these forces.

  2. social work is a job, a cog. Economics is a study of the 'what if' function. Social work would be in the realm of micro-economics. You might want to look at cause and effect, or cause and affect.

Change happens when BIG things happen.

An ant can't change much or alter much of anything, but a bunch of ants can. ..but when one steps back. ..a bunch of ants don't do much either.

The only effect I see is if a bunch of people volunteer, or a bunch of people or commodities do  things.

All this would be a percentage change from the norm. and nominal at best.
