Socialist = Intellectual?

Why is it, those with a socialist agenda are always applauded as intellectuals. Even when history has shown all socialist societys fail. It is impossible for the few workers to carry the many non-workers.

  1. All countries are socialist to some extent.

    Even yours.

  2. They are masters at hijacking and redefining words. I hate the term intellectual for many reasons. One would think it meant a learned person with a drive to learn even more. Holding three college degrees, I could be considered an intellectual by definition. What these people are is naive utopian elitists.

  3. Because absolute power corrupts absolutely.  Eventually the populous reaches a tolerance level and, at least of the moment, corrects matters.  The tragedy is that the lessons learns from one generation to another are quickly forgotten.  The cycle repeats itself.

  4. too many chiefs not enough indians

  5. I eat socialists for breakfast.  Not one socialist has ever explained intelligently why the fruits of my labor belong to another person.  They have failed to justify theft, coercion, and slavery.

  6. Aristotle thought of democracy over two thousand years before it actually worked.  Socialism has only been around for a few hundred years.  Give it some time :-)

Socialism would work in a society of socialist intellectuals...

  7. Socialism is a an amazing idea, but is horrible when put to effect.

If government could create jobs and raise children, socialism would have worked.

    George Gilder

Socialism failed because it couldn't tell the economic truth; capitalism may fail because it couldn't tell the ecological truth.

    Lester Brown

  8. Because they think they have everyone bamboozled. Socialists are not intellectuals. Intellectuals can see through all the lies of socialism. Those that don't see through socialism, are fearful, gullible, easy to control the masses. It is impossible for a few to care the mass. Why should the few carry them? Fairness. Equality. Power.

  9. No way.  Being intellectual requires possessing logic.  Socialists are led by their "feelings."  There is nothing intellectual about it.

But you have to understand their vision.  They don't limit it to the US.  They envision a whole world operated by socialism.  I find this terrifying.

  10. Actually an intellectual is often not in tune with the real world.  His mind is in the clouds contemplating philosophical matters.

As a philosophic ideal, socialism sounds pretty good, but it is not in accordance with human nature and produces more harm than good.

"If  you’re  not a socialist at 20 you have no heart.   If  you’re  still a socialist at 40 you have no brain."

  11. Socialism is alive and well in Europe- they're not going broke. It's a question of degree. Generally liberal minded people seem to be more educated-i.e., the right wing is mostly composed of "hicks", for lack of a better expression and the ultra sophisticated, if you will, wealthy and educated class. It is generally assumed by most of the educated classes that Government is there to serve and protect all or most of its' citizens. Socialism is toughest on the wealthy because of an additional tax burden- also a question of degree as the wealthy, it may be said, never have quite enough money. This at times ambitious and aggressive class can often stifle the ambitions and social needs of the many such as for the necessity of adequate health care and housing. Though contrary to the Christian ideal and the teachings of Jesus Mammon would seem to hold the reigns.

  12. Why? Because it sounds good to almost everyone.  (we will help the poor, more jobs, etc.)

Also, the reason why socialist societies fail is because the world revolves around money, if it hadn't, then socialism has a better chance to work.

Socialism would work better too if there was less technology, because technology requires more specialization, such as the more technology we have, the more knowledge that is required to use the technology, thus giving less initiative in a socialist society to learn more to get paid, whereas knowledgeable societies pay more to specialized trades, because these trades have initiative to work in such manner, and they are paid more.

Socialists are intellectuals on the dream of equality, however class equality cannot be achieved today, because of the class barriers and how the world runs on monetary and materialistic values.

  13. Because it takes an abuse of language & convoluted logic to prove the values of socialism as opposed to actual proof that shows capitalism worx.

  14. Socialist = Communist

  15. They like to think so.

  16. You must remember the Intellectual socialists will not be doing any of the work themselves. That is why socialism is unfair and has never succeeded where it has been tried. It still creates a elite ruling class to exploit and profit from the productive. Guess where all the smart socialists plan on sitting on that economic ladder?
