Society Rock set to rock in the Darley July Cup (British Champions Series And Global Sprint Challenge) (Group 1)
The James Fanshawe trained bay horse, Society Rock, is all set to rock the party at Newmarket where he will run in the Darley July Cup (British Champions Series And Global Sprint Challenge) (Group 1) on Saturday, July 14.
The high-profile Class 1 event has received total 15 entries including some big wins. A 6-furlong soft track is ready to welcome the runners, who will compete for the prize worth £256,329.
Society Rock has won 4 of his total 17 starts so far. The talented son of Rock Of Gibraltar, out of mare High Society, has been winless since August 2011, but he has demonstrated some eye-catching performances during this period.
On August 7, the five-year-old veteran runner elegantly gained the runner-up position in the Prix Maurice De Gheest – Goldikova (Group 1) (3YO+) (Turf) at Deauville.
The Simon Gibson-owned horse stepped ahead to get the 6th spot against 15 rivals in Betfred Sprint Cup (Group 1) at Haydock on September 3.
In his first outing of 2012 on May 16, the San Gabriel Investments-bred maverick sprinter finished 3rd against a dozen of competitors----that was the Duke Of York Totepool Stakes (Group 2) over 6 furlongs, held at York.
Then there came the glamorous Royal Ascot event where, Society Rock, performed very well but finished 5th in a field of 14, named as Diamond Jubilee Stakes (British Champions Series & Global Sprint Challenge) (Group 1) on June 23.
Now, the young horse is dreaming to bring home the title of the Darley July Cup. The challenge is quite arduous but, he will be able to cope with it provided he keeps his spirit high.
On his way towards the finish line, Society Rock will have to face the wrath of Libranno, who is awash with confidence following her two back-to-back triumphs of the last month.
First the trainee of Richard Hannon won Bathwick Tyres Cathedral Stakes (Listed Race) over 6 furlongs at Salisbury and then claimed the title of the John Sunley Memorial Criterion Stakes (Group 3) over 7 furlongs at Newmarket.
Thus, a fierce battle is waiting for us at Newmarket. Let us go there and enjoy the way Society Rock fights against Libranno.
