  1. "Modernization" and "development" are both words that people in the West use to describe people in the 2nd or 3rd world countries.  It's often used in terms of saying that people in the West are "modern" or "developed," whereas those in the 2nd or 3rd world are not.  

    So you might think it's economic because the 1st world is talking about the poorer countries.  It doesn't really have anything to do with class, because class assumes you're within the same society or class system.  Ethnocentric is another good answer because an ethnocentric bias compares everyone else to us.  You might think it's scientific because people in the West stereotypically have more hard science than the poor areas.

    So which answer is the best?  Since this seems like directly from an exam, I'm not going to tell you... but just think it through...
