Question:

Sociology Contributors.?

For my sociology project I have to choose a person or film that has contributed to understanding a sociological topic. I really am looking for a unique person or film(not Michael Moore or one of his films, since everyone will probably choose him), that will really grab my peers attention. Any suggestions?

  1. "Sociology is a Martial Art," starring Pierre Bourdieu.

It's a very legitimate documentary about Pierre Bourdieu, who is a recently deceased modern theorist of cultural sociology. His ideas are extremely influential in the field - your teacher will be very impressed! We watched this film in my Sociological Theory class, and Bourdieu's ideas are really cool. Hope you don't mind subtitles.

(By "legitimate" I mean that the film is focused solely on academic Sociology rather than it being some distant pop-culture movie, and many sociology experts love it).

  2. Blood Diamond, Office Space, Rabbit Proof Fence, Crash, Do the Right Thing . . . these are all great movies with tons of sociology crammed in them. However, as a teacher I have to leave it up to you to figure out what topics are crammed in where.

  3. Pick one of those guys. I would recommend Durkeim or Marx.
