Abortion, marijuana, g*y marriage, and euthanasia are too overdone. If you want a good topic, you'll have to be a bit more original.

The news is filled with wonderful stories. There are shootings to consider in school, bizarre murder-suicides, and many other things that will titillate and inspire interest.

Research on the cases of the impacts of climate change on the most vulnerable communities in your area - how have they prepared before the disaster, how were they at the scene of the calamity and how have they coped up with the stresses brought about by the disasters. It's very contemporary and it's a great contribution to the academe knowing that we are on the verge of nature's revenge on the consequences brought about by the population in majority.
