Sociology? What is it?

Hi, I'm thinking about my A levels and what to choose. My friend suggested Sociology may be good for me. I don't have a clue what it is. Wondered if anyone could let me know?

And what kind of people would be good at it..

A pseudo science, that has been taken over by feminists. I would strongly advise you not to study it, unless you want your head playing with. It isn't an exact science, so those with an agenda can make up whatever rules they want.

The study of society.  I did this as an A level and really enjoyed it, it opened my eyes to lots of things going on in the world.  We studied research methods, the family, work, gender, religion and other things too.

oh i'm doing As Sociology.

DEF: it's the study of society.

i find it really intresting, anyone can study it. it's just common sense and it really helps change your perspective on your life and other peoples. studying sociology shows people you are intelligent and like the think, other subjects like this are psychology and philosophy.

i would recomend when you know where you will be studying you should go and have talks with the teachers of all the subjects your intrested in. so you get an insight into the subject and an idea of who you will be teaching it.

It is the study of social issues and influences in society.  You look at family life, education and the famous nature vs nurture debate.  It is a very interesting course accompanys well with criminology and psychology :-)

ppl are good at it who are interested in culuture, society and different belief systems.

I would defo recommend it I really enjoyed the first year, but like anything you need to have the right teacher, i dont know the exam board your sociology be with so I would talk to the teacher and get there advice about the subject matter and see if you like the teacher.

It's a very interesting subject which looks at the effects of social conditioning, on the individual. Have a read on Marx and Maslow. If you find their theories interesting, and want to know more about the philosophy of how humans behave collectively, then you'll like the subject.
