Sociology dissertation help? I need a theory!?

The basic jist of my discussion topic is:

What adjustments do primary school teachers have to make to facilitate immigrant children in their classrooms? How are they coping with these changes and what are their attitudes towards immigrants.

My question is what would be a good theory or theorist to use and test?

Please help me I am really stuck on this one!

A gal in my class is working on immigration for her thesis, and there aren't really any good theories regarding anything to do with immigration and assimiliation.  There are just a bunch of ideas and concepts (at least what she has found so far in her research).  

I know she is really struggling to find any theory to help her topic.  You will probably have to throw in some S.I. (Symbolic Interaction) or exchange theory.  Sorry I don't have more advice!
