Sociology!!?

some sociologists see the family as being a very positive group to have in socioety whilst others see it in a negative light. How do they each justify their position?

I don't know what to do on this question. Need help! Exams in like 3 hours!!

  1. Ok, a family can be seen in a negative light as there as the liklihood of divorce can be a facor. Positive light could be that it helps contribution to society through work, producing children, helping the government etc..things like that.

    Sorry, I don't study sociology, but hope it's helped a little to jog your memory of what you've learnt in the past.


  2. The question is really political.  If you are trying to establish a homogenous state, family structure and religious ideology are your two main opponents.

    Otherwise the family is the main support structure for learning and security of a young child, mom and dad being role models for how each s*x should behave and how they should treat each other.  

    Where mom and dad are poor role models - that is, the dysfunctional family - the argument goes that it is better to remove the children, at least in particularly bad cases.  Usually this is done through the intervention of the state, which takes us back to the political element once more.
