  1. If you're addicted to facebook, use it to study social networks. There is a wonderful paper called 'The Strength of Weak Ties' in Sociology that talks about the importance of casual relationships for important events such as getting a job.  You can do a survey in your network of friends and acquaintances and test to see if this is true.

Ask your prof, I bet he/she would love it (I'm pretty sure).

  2. It depends.  Urban Sociology?  Intro?  Deviance?  Social Problems?  Theory?  Disaster?

Here are a few random topics:

    Why Deviance is Relative

Rape and the Role it Plays in Society

    Religion and Social Inequality

    Social Institutions...Education, Religion, etc.

    Race and Disaster Response

Differences Across Cultures in.....Raising Children, Marital and Sexual Relations, Expressions of Love, Work Ethic, Response to Violence, etc.

    Good Luck!

  3. This might be more in the realm of anthropology, but how about:

"Aging in Context:  Perceptions of the Elderly Across Societal Boundaries"

In something like this you could examine different demographics' views on aging and the elderly, which could reveal a lot about collective psyche of different age groups, ethnic groups, and even socio-economic groups.  If done properly I think this could be a fascinating subject.  There's also a lot of research that has been done on the subject to draw upon.

  4. Try e.g.

"Why is the USA the only country in the world where a majority does not believe that global warming exists?"
