Socrates wants Luiz Felipe Scolari to take charge of Brazil

Socrates, a Legendary Brazilian football player, has said that Brazil’s former World Cup winning coach Luiz Felipe Scolari should take over Brazilian national team after Dunga.
Former world cup winning captain Dunga left his post as the team manager following Brazil’s exit at the quarter final stage in the 2010 FIFA sWorld Cup. Socrates said that the disappointing performance of the team was not a big surprise for him. He said that he had been closely monitoring the preparations and things did not look too good heading into the World Cup.
Socrates said that the loss was not such a big shock for the nation, as they did not really expect the team to go all the way this time.
The former Brazilian captain said that Dunga did not make the team play with the typical Brazilian flair; he said that there was too much of European influence in his style of play that clearly did not work for Brazil. He said that Scolari is a man who has been there and done that so he should be handed the reins once again.
Luis Felipe Scolari was the man in charge back in 2002 when Brazil won the World Cup in South Korea and Japan. After that he moved to Portugal and led them to semi final of world cup and Euro championships. He also had a spell with Chelsea but that did not go too well, and later he was in charge of Uzbek side FC Bunyodkor.
The former World Cup winning coach has now come back to his homeland and has put pen to paper on a 2 year contract with Palmeiras.
Now there is a strong feeling that Scolari may take on a dual role and look after the club as well as the national team. While the other option might be that he spends his 2 years at the club and as soon as his contract runs out he may join the national team.
Socrates said that being a manager of a big club and taking over a team like Brazil are two entirely different things. He added that when someone takes on the job of managing Brazil he has to also be ready to make do with extra pressures other than the ones related to his team.
Socrates said that the coach of Brazil football team is given immense importance in the country; some people even treat him as important as the country’s President. He added that when a man is given so much responsibility then he is obligated to honour the expectations of the fans.
He went on to say like any good leader if the manager does not respond or bring the results he would be asked to leave.
Socrates led Brazil in 1982 in the World Cup that was held in Spain. The team had number of big names such as Zico and Falcao but still did not manage to win the World Cup. Despite the loss that squad is still remembered as one of the most star studded sides and a team with a lot of flair.
Interestingly the 1982 World Cup marked 12 years of Brazil not making it to the final of the World Cup, the drought finally ended after 12 more years in 1994 in USA when Brazil beat Italy over penalty shootouts under the captaincy of Dunga.
Socrates said that Dunga in his time focused more on results rather than the skill and style of the team, that is not the way Brazilians play and in the long run that is something that will harm the team.  He ended by saying that Scolari should definitely be brought back to take charge of Brazil before another country gets hold of him.
