and he tries to fix it, it usually is just made worse? for example you have a plumbing problem or a problem with a lock etc. i mean my friend is a carpenter/joiner by trade so he offered to look at my front door lock, i was all impressed as he took it apart, filed it, etc. then i didnt have a problem opening the lock, it wouldnt lock at all lol and he only somewhat fixed it by leaving out one piece he took apart. even he said "look, i made it worse" haha so, why does this ALWAYS happen?? it wasnt like he was totally unskilled in locks lol or that i begged him to look at it, he offered. tho i am grateful for his help as i know its not the lock itself its how it catches on the door frame, but im not sure if im worse off now? lol

  1. the key to this, is that some people are willing to work outside of the scope of their ability.  carpenter ---  locksmith...  2 different trades altogether.  i've fixed a ton of door k***s and locks, but that's because i had a locksmith 5 minutes away in case i screwed up.

being capable, and trained are different, and shouldn't be confused.

some of us learn not to offer to help, unless we KNOW we will actually be one.

another thing, is knowing WHEN you're over your head, as many things (especially plumbing) are very simple to fix yourself, but there is a fine line, where things can get out of hand.

i guess this is just a case of 'live and learn'...  too late now, but i bet you call a locksmith next time..  right?

  2. If you didn't want the help, why did you ask for their help? It sounds like you have a lot of nice friends who are trying to be just that...friendly. You could have called a repairman first. Quit looking a gift horse in the mouth.

I think you just demonstrated the problem...you have an attitude. Hope this struck a chord.

  3. I dont know but there is something to this.  I have worked on a couple of friend's computers and made them worse and Im good at it!

  4. things are often harder than they seem, i once tried to fix a playstation but it didnt work out. Men like fixing things its in their nature even if they cant lol

  5. Is this a technical or philosophical question? Hire someone skilled to do it or just learn how to fix it yourself properly. Don't rely on others as they have no interest in your lock.
