Question:

SofLens 66 Toric - potential overwear?

by  |  earlier

I've been wearing SofLens Toric (66) soft contact lenses for about 3.5 years now. Sometimes my eyes become red toward the edges; the blood vessels are more visible on the sides of my eye, though not toward the center.

Itchiness tends to go along with this redness, although not always.

My question is, could this be the result of overwearing my lenses? I replace them exactly every 2 weeks (have a schedule marked on my calendar). However, I do wear them pretty much every day for most of the day; I'd say about 16-17 hours per day or so.

Is this too much daily usage for a contact lens? I never heard any guidelines for this other than to not sleep with them in.

Some help would be greatly appreciated!!

  1. It could be from overwearing them.  16-17 hours is a lot of wear for a lens (I know my optician has suggested 12 hours max and I usually wear them for less).

I sometimes get dryness from them and that can also be something to do with your age.  As I've got older, the dryness has got worse.  When I was 18 and wore them I had no problems.  20 years later, I get dryness.  So that could be a factor too - even in your late 20s you could be starting to suffer from it (I'm not sure how old you are, so it's just a suggestion).

Do you work on a computer at work?  That's another thing that can make contact lens wear a bit of a misery.  My optician told me that when you work on a PC, you don't blink as much as you do normally and it can result in dryness.

The other thing I can suggest is that you take them out and clean them halfway through the day if possible.  If nothing else it will give your eyes a 5 min break and also lubricate the lenses.

  2. Yes, u have overwear the soflen 66 toric. This lenses is meant for about 10hrs wearing. u may want to try the newer range of purevision toric. It can be worn for long hrs with not much problem. reduce redness and redness means that the eye is lack of oxygen flow. PVT is also a 2 week lenses.

  3. A healthy eye with healthy lenses hdould be able to wear lenses for all of your waking hours if cleaned and replaced on schedule. You might have something going on that has nothing to do with your contacts. It might be an allergy to something inthe air, or expusure to too much sun, or maybe a change in any meds you might take. You can see your doctor to pinpoint it or do a bit of elimination work and you might be able to figure it out yourself. Get some Zaditor....an over the counter allergy med....orange bottle....you have to shake the bottle well. Use is in the morning when you first wake up. Do n't put your lenses in for at least 10 minutes. Use it after your take your lenses out at night. If things clear up considerable you have an allergy problem. If they don't you might have something else going on. If it gets markedly worse or you have sharp pain or loss of vision call your doctor at once.

  4. Soflens 66 Toric is a two-week replacement lens for people with astigmatism. The SofLens 66 Toric contact lens has a unique design that is exceptionally easy to wear. It provides clear vision, and exceptional comfort consistently from lens to lens. After two weeks, throw your lenses away and start over with a fresh pair. Accurate fit Exceptional comfort because they're 66% water.

Concern to your question  Itchiness and redness this may be due lack of oxygen flow you over wear it...i recommended to decrease wear it to 12 -14 hours plus proper care also is so important....because unclean contact also ,may cause itching and redness...
