Sofia Mulanovich and Coco Ho secure Roxy Pro France 2011 quarterfinals spot
The fourth round of Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Women’s World Tour, Roxy Pro, wrapped up with the third and fourth heat at the La Grande Plage in Biarritz, South Africa, on Friday, July 15.
The Peruvian force, Sofia Mulanovich emerged triumphant from the third heat after defeating Australia’s Laura Enever and advancing to the quarter-final stage of the competition.
The fourth heat saw Hawaii’s Coco Ho remove New Zealand’s Paige Hareb from the contention for the event title and advance to the quarter-finals.
Mulanovich had shown good performance throughout the season and there were high expectations from her in the South African stop of the championship. However, the Peruvian was failing to justice to her reputation so far, clearly not in the best of forms.
As a result, she was relegated to the fourth round to fight in a sudden-death battle against Australia Enever for a place in the quarter-final.
As the heat kicked off, the 28-year-old Peruvian made a charge early in the battle and managed to catch a wave to show her stylish moves and earn 7.00 points for the effort form the judges.
Enever came up with a weak response to her rival’s first-wave score, scoring a mere 2.00 points off his first wave and staying 5.00 points behind on the scoreboard. A while later, the 19-year-old added another 2.60 points to her score and finished with a
two-wave total of 4.60 points.
Mulanovich collected a 3.00 off her final wave to finish with a heat-total of 10.00 points and secured a convincing win to make her way into the quarter-finals.
The final heat of Round 4 featured a showdown between Hawaii’s Ho and New Zealand’s sole representative in the ASP Women’s World Tour, Hareb.
The 20-year-old Hawaiian locked her first wave in the middle stages of the heat, earning 5.33 points off it to take a lead in the heat and put her rival under pressure. A few minutes later, she caught another wave to add an additional 6.67 points to his
account and moving to a two-wave total of 12.00 points.
In the final minutes of the heat, the 21-year-old Hareb caught a couple of waves to collect 3.90 and 5.13 points off it and move to a heat-total of 9.03. The score placed her in a 2.97-point deficit, forcing her to surrender victory to her Hawaiian opponent
and getting eliminated from the competition.
With the conclusion of the fourth round, the field for the quarter-finals of Roxy Pro was completed.
