Question:

Softball Tournament Team????

I have a big problem. My softball tournament team has played two tournaments, and we have one more left. I play in the youth 12U league. Since this is my first year in the 12U league, I'm the second baseman.

Now here's my problem:

There are two second basemen on my team. The other one is over a foot shorter than me, and can hardly play any other position. She can't make a throw from the outfield to first. Because of this, I only get second base twice in a game, where she gets it 4 times. I'm not really an outfielder, so I get put in right field all the time. The balls are never hit to right field. I have to sit our 2 innings every game, while she sits out 1 or sometimes even none.

She get's that coaches daughter rule a lot. Even though she's not the daughter of the head coach, she always gets whatever position she wants. How can I ask my head coach to play second as much as the other second baseman does, without comparing myself to her? Please help!!!!

  1. DON'T ASK JUST SHOW UP TO PRACTICE AND SHOW HIM/HER THAT YOU'RE BETTER AND IF YOU DO ASK HE/SHE WILL THINK YOU'RE COMPLAINING AND THAT WILL MAKE IT WORSE JUST GIVE 150% INSTEAD OF 110% LIKE EVERYONE ELSE

  2. most likely your coach is pulling the veterans card on you. your a first year player, and I'm assuming she has played more that you. if you really want to play second you got to earn it, show your coach that your first string quality. and the whole right field thing, that's a squat position, in other words its a beginner position. your not going to play anywhere else unless you play well outfield. also about asking your coach, just tell him/her that you want to experience other positions than outfield. slowly but surly your coach is going to move you around. only tell him that you really want to play 2nd once you have tried the other positions or he/she asks you which position you want to play.

  3. i play second too and we entered a tournament and i had to play right field. the only reason was that i had a better arm than the other second basemen(the coach even said so) and just like you i got to play prolly one inning at second a game, but in one game i made a diving stop at second and a throw and yeahhhhhhh....it was pretty good. and now i play it a lot more so really all im saying is if you play your part the coaches will notice you and you might get to start.
