Softboards: Just want to know what sort of sealant I can use to seal the fin plugs for the longer board life.?

The boards are Redback Kirra Pro, foam core and smooth underside with a soft deck. I just thought that sealing them with some silicon or something that wont react with the materials would make the things last longer by stopping the ingress of water.

  1. Dude use GromWorldPlugSeal

  2. Actually, you don't have to "seal" your fin plugs beacause it is already sealed when the plugs are installed.   FYI, the hole that is routed for the plug is covered with fiberglass and resin when the plug is pushed in which accounts for the "halo" around the plug.  You apply anything you want, but it won't help because of the fiberglass between the foam and plug.  The only thing that can cause a leak there is if the manufacturer did not do a good job on installing the plugs.  If it isn't a good job and you can detect a leak, then finishing resin should be injected into the crack.  You will need a need a hypodermic needle and siringe (sorry about the spelling) to do the job.  Good luck on getting the needle.

A surfboard is made of foam, resin, and fiberglass.  For some funny reason, any other materials used to repair a board will not last as long as these.  So, if you have a leak, use resin.   If you don't have a leak don't sweat sealing something that is already sealed.

  3. I know this sounds dumb but, plumbers glue.
