Question:

Software for baseball scoring? ?

This is a good idea, but of course I'm too lazy to pursue it.

How about a small handheld computer, like a palm you subscribe to so that all the current stats are available, that you can keep score (print out later) using a stylus, at the games. I score with a pencil of course but it would definitely be worth it to be able to access stats during the game. Can you imagine a perfect scorecard? (I'be been trying for 50 years, and have not even come close).

  1. The program I use is Score-It.  It allows just about every option imaginable, depending on the rules used in your league.  You want to change your batting order during the game?  Use a courtesy runner or re-enter a starter like in high school?  Have 15 players in the batting order?  Set your ERA stats so they're based on a, I don't know, four-inning game for whatever reason?  Completely remove a player from the game so that a team continues with only eight?  No problem.  The program doesn't "limit" you because certain things are illegal in any known league.  Maybe such a limit would prevent you from entering something that's legal in your own league!  Therefore, the program lets you do anything you want.

It has a few kinks in it, very minor ones.  Three that I've found:

-If your league has a verbal intentional walk rule (walk the player without throwing a pitch), the program will count that as a pitch thrown by the pitcher, so you have to make a manual note to subtract one ball thrown in whatever place you put your stats.  There is also no option to award a ball or strike, such as when the pitcher goes to his mouth or the batter delays too long, where a ball or strike is called without a pitch being thrown.  Every ball or strike is counted as a pitch thrown by the pitcher in that program.

-If a pitcher catches a runner stealing (the runner's going on the pitch and the pitcher throws to a base instead of the plate), it'll give the "caught stealing" to the catcher instead of the pitcher.  Make a manual note for that.

-For correct putout/assist stats, you have to "break up" double or triple plays.  For example, in a typical 6-4-3 DP, you'd have to note the first runner being out 6-4, and the second runner being out 4-3, in order to give the SS an assist, the 2B with a putout and assist, and the 1B with a putout.

I'm a big fan of it; since I've started using it, I now even keep all my pencil/paper books in the Score-It style, so that I now have the most detailed scorebook I've seen anyone keep.  You can try it out as much as you want for as long as you want for free.  Here's the website:

Within Score-It, there seems to be some option to interface with another program, TurboStats.  TurboStats makes another program, called ScoreKeeper, for the Palm OS.  Might be useful:

EDIT: Now, I think I understand what you're trying to do.  It sounds a bit ambitious, and I'm not sure that exists at that time.  All I can say is best of luck!
