Software to share files on the network?

Whenever i try to use a tutorial on how to share files in windows XP all the dialogs look different than mine. they all have 'permissions' options and stuff and i dont. plus ied like to require a password so that i can share my entire hard drive with another computer without worrying about someone else on my network s******g things up. is there software to share files over the network that works like this?

  1. the best software for this is DC++.U can easily get this software from net.just download it and try it.after running the software u need to create a hub by setting a IP adderss.u can pit it by CTRL+Q.then u can put the ip there to connect.u can share any file through DC++ easily.u can also get the manual to use the software from net.hope u will able to do it................

  3. sharing files over two PC's running windows xp requires the installation of no additional software  this ability is already in XP you simply just need to create a work group for the PC's to be in  a simple google search will give you many sites that give step by step instructions
