Sohail Tanvir declared fit and sent to join Pakistan cricket team in New Zealand
Left-handed pacer Sohail Tanvir has finally been given the green signal by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to join the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 squad in its ongoing tour of New Zealand.
Tanvir was initially selected for the Twenty20 and Test matches in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 but was later axed from the final squad (which left for New Zealand last week) because of fitness concerns. The left-handed pacer had been on a one-year
break from international cricket following a knee injury he sustained in 2009, leading him to miss major events including the 2010 ICC World Twenty20 and Pakistan’s tour of England this summer. He underwent surgery on his knee a few months ago and had been
recuperating since.
Tanvir and Mohammad Yousuf were the only two players to have been omitted from Pakistan’s squad for its New Zealand tour, because they were deemed unfit by the medical panel.
However, Tanvir has been performing very well in the domestic circuit, which convinced the PCB to have another look at his fitness. This time, they were satisfied by the pacer’s physical endurance level and felt he could prove
to be an asset for the national side, which has just lost the opening match of the three-match Twenty20 series against the Kiwis.
A PCB medical panel evaluated Tanvir’s fitness, in consultation with the Australian doctor who performed surgery on the bowler’s knee, before clearing him to play for the national side.
“After evaluating Tanvir, the PCB team is of the view that the more he plays the graft will settle and bending of the knee will improve with the passage of time,” said the PCB in an official statement.
The pacer’s recovery will have come as a tremendous relief to him, as he said in a recent interview that he had at one point thought his career was over. Tanvir’s inclusion in the team will boost Pakistan’s bowling strength and
will definitely give the team management some variety to choose from in the bowling department.
