Sohail Tanvir has justified his selection, claims http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Iqbal-Qasim-c76980 – Cricket News Update
The chief selector of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Iqbal Qasim, has defended the decision to replace http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sohail-Tanvir-c90665 in the One Day International (ODI) squad and feels that the move was justified by the left-arm fast bowler's performance.
The left-handed opening batsman injured his finger during a club match in Lahore last month and was ruled out for the tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758. It was widely expected that a batsman will replace Nasir in the squad as he is an opener.
However, the selection committee made a surprising decision by retaining Tanvir after an impressive performance in the T20 format, where he was named as the Player of the Series.
The cricketer from Rawalpindi picked up six wickets in the ODI series as well and remained http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Hafeez-c76898.
Qasim expressed his satisfaction over the showings of the fast bowler, while talking to
Pakpassion.
He expressed, “Sohail Tanvir was bowling well in the two Twenty20 internationals and the team management requested that he be added to the one day international squad in place of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nasir-c78728 Jamshed. I think it was a fair call as Tanvir also bowled well in the
one day series.”
Some of the former cricketers believe that the opening batsman from Lahore, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ahmed-Shehzad-c42359 should have been given a chance in the 50-overs version as well, as the right-hander has shown improvement in the recent past.
The former left-arm spinner feels that the youngster is more suited for the shortest format of the game but understands that the opening batsman will return to the ODI team as well in the coming years.
“Ahmed is a promising cricketer but at this point we felt that he was an ideal selection for the twenty over format rather than the fifty over matches. But I don’t want to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/WD-Parnell-c2787 hole him and say that he is only suited to twenty over cricket,” the chief
selector added.
Pakistan is likely to make some changes in their ODI team after a disastrous loss against Sri Lanka and one should not be surprised to see some young cricketers getting an opportunity to showcase their talent in the series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, which will be
played in August.
