The International Cricket Council World Cup 2011 that kicks off on February 19 will see many teams minus their key players, mainly due to injuries and fitness concerns.
The latest player to be rested is Pakistani all-rounder Sohail Tanvir. The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to rest the player due to fitness issues.
Tanvir was part of the team that toured http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 for the successful six-match One Day International (ODI) series. However, the unorthodox bowler failed to impress in the tour.
The national team returned to Pakistan yesterday after a successful tour, beating the Kiwis in both the ODI and Test series.
The PCB hasn’t issued an official statement on Tanvir’s dropping from the squad yet, but has informed the player that he is being rested.
The news was a shock for Tanvir, as he claims he has no fitness problems. He told a local TV channel that he was feeling perfectly fine and had not had any fitness-related problems during the New Zealand tour.
The series against New Zealand had been a comeback for Tanvir, who had been out of the team for two years due to a knee injury.
Pakistan hasn’t named a replacement for Tanvir, but speculations are that Tanvir Ahmad, another player who was part of the New Zealand tour, could be the one. An uncapped bowler all-rounder, Junaid http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319, is also being rumoured to be considered for the vacancy.
The board will have to make a quick decision on Tanvir’s replacement as the team is to play a warm up match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 on 15th February.
Pakistan will play their first match of the tournament against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kenya-c752 on 23rd February.
