  1. of those answers a is the best. the roots of any plants or trees hold the soil in place.  rotating crops is good to let the soil regenerate certain nutrients. all plants use slightly different minerals from the soil. damming streams can help during periods of heavy rainfall to help avoid floods but often this can raise the water table to high and undercut areas of the river banks that would normally not be susceptible.
