  1. My great grandfather said when he was a young man his father bought a stationary bike looking contraption that ran a generator. He said his family liked to listen to the Grand Ole Opry at night. The radio would play only while some one was pedaling the bike. He said the whole family including his parent took a turn at pedaling the bike. According to him the only time the family had access to electrical resources was when someone was pedaling......

  2. you can buy a 5 watt (or more watt) solar panel and a marine battery and and inverter, it will cost around 150 bucks, butt with that you can power many light bulbs, and tv's, radios.. its really cool.

  3. I used to live in the Oregon national forest, where there was no electricity available for several miles, I bought a power inverter for $40, and hooked it to my car battery and ran a 13 inch TV, VCR combination for 4 hours and still had enough charge in my car battery to start the car.

you can buy a 2 watt solar panel on E bay for about $25, that is made to charge VW batteries while they are being shipped to the US from Germany
