Solar Cooking?Anyone?

Anyone knows exactly how to heat or i can say boil the 500ml water in approximately 1 hour by solar cooking?

The higher the temperature of the water after an hour, the better it would be. My targeted temperature:

>150 degree celcius.

Advices? Tips? Experiences?

Thanx!

  1. First and foremost, pure water boils at 100C at sea level, anywhere on planet Earth. To achieve anything above that, the vessel that boils the water will need to be pressurized and 150C seems a little high by common standards. However, having said that, to boil 500ml of water to 100C using 100% solar energy, you either concentrate the sunlight of a couple of m2 area into small black metal kettle containing the water or use a solar vacuum tube device like the Solar Kettle-Thermos Flask (SK-TF) see http://www.freewebs.com/solarkettle. The water in the SK-TF should boil within an hour or less under good strong sunshine.

  2. I think your best bet is check out NASA database, the US space agency for the recommendation of solar cooking. The allocation for solar cooking is probably in hot desert countries, and many poor African countries. As a matter of fact, quite a few African countries are currently applying solar cooking for convenience and economic reasons. I once in Canada viewed a solar (actually in door is applicable) board for sale in a department store and it boasted can cook a steak in less than an hour. Boiling water is quite an advance technology, it probably needs a optical equipment to collect light energy through a reflector by means of adding up or sum up the total light energy to produce extra high temperature of heat. It is quite feasible but costly and not practical. The following web article provide you the hints about the solar cooking.

  3. Solar brownies and solar applesauce is fun, too!

Patience is the best tip I can offer - you've already been shown some good sites. I teach summer camp and we cook snack in our solar oven ... it takes patience, but it's really fun!

  4. You can make a solar cooker yourself and use it for cooking / boiling water

  5. Making a box solar cooker is easy and anyone can do it. You can buy one too.

By the way water boils at 100 degree celsius so you cant have water at 150% though I think sometimes the temperature in box cookers goes to around that value.

The link gives you information about various solar cookers.

They cook slowly and pretty well, we have tried rice, lentils, veggies etc.
