We have gone through several solar covers for our pool, and our current one is ripping because its chlorine rotting due to last year.

I need to know, what is the best kind of solar cover i can buy?

Like should i use a cover, or try some of those panel things that connect to each other?

Please tell me what is the best kind of cover to use, where i can get it, and how much it costs.

Thank you

  1. 1. you are using too much chlorine.  Try to use the minimum and this is trial and error.  My pool guy said 6 large tablets a week for my 30' pool, but 4 did the job.  I also reduced the pump to 3 hours per day.  Saved a ton on electricity.  Put it on a timer to come on in the middle of the day, when it generates the algae.  I think cutting back on the pool pump hours also reduced the amount of chlorine needed.

    2.  use floating devices to keep the cover off the surface of the water.

    3. Are you using one year round?  The sumer sun should be enough heat.  If not, and you plan to drain your pool at anytime, try painting it navy blue or black to absorb the heat.

4.) you can make a solar heating device out of 1" pipe painted black, set into a black plywood box 4"high to which the pipe is mounted zig zag back and forth.  Cover with a sheet of glass 1/4" thick or more.  Mount to a sunny roof, and use the pump to push the water through.  The inlet is on the top and the outlet back to the pool is on the bottom.  Build two or more of these and mount in sequence.  It will preheat the water to a more comfortable temperature.  When it comes time to freeze, it can be easily drained by adding a cut off valve.

  2. call Edwards Canvas Inc. 1-800-657-2570  tell them what you need  they can custom make you one ...... get the material like a mesh  .... like they use on top of dump trucks..... that's what we use on an in ground commercial pool ...... have had it for six years looks like new .... you should even be able to get it with elastic around edges

  3. My brother had that problem. The way we fixed it, was to buy 5 - 6 blow up inner tubes,(car inner tubes will work too), fill them with air, and put them in the pool, along the sides. Then put the cover on. The inner tubes helped keep the cover from touching the water. Any blow up devise will work, (blow up rafts, beach balls, etc.) The bigger the pool, the more you need. It works great.
