Solar Eclipse~ strange shadows?

Why is it that during a solar eclipse, the shadows cast outdoors (on the side of the house, etc,) are all in the shape of little half-moons? It's scary:S

  1. So you've got a partial solar eclipse.  You're not in the center of the shadow.  There's a tree, and there are thousands of little pinholes formed by the leaves.  These form pinhole cameras, and you get thousands of images of the partial solar eclipse.

  3. bcuz during partial phases the sun itself is a crescent.

    you could see this clearly if you observed the sun, either with a solar filter or a pinhole camera.
