Question:

Solar Energy- REALLY IMPORTANT!?

This is not really a question, but severely important!!

Global warming is a huge problem today!! So, what are we going to do about it? Recycling and not idling your car would help. But there is something that can help us more!! The answer is right above our heads.

-Did you know the sun gives MORE THAN ENOUGH electricity for everyone in the world to use solar power..and more!

-solar panels are availible today!

    And yeah....

The true science says that it is the Sun that is causing most of the recent warming that we have been hearing about.

Carbon Dioxide (CO2) is only accountable for less than 5% of greenhouse gases and we only make about 5% of that. (About 90-95% of Greenhouse Gases is Water Vapor)

The reason for increased CO2 is because as the oceans become heated, they cannot hold as much as they could if they were cooler, so the oceans release the excess into the atmosphere. From what I hear, the oceans can hold many times more energy and heat then the air. This meaning that the atmosphere should have very little effect on the oceans and that the sun or perhaps the Earth itself is heating up the surface since those are two of the only things that could heat our vast oceans.

Also, the Earth hasn’t warmed in nearly a decade but has actually fallen and it has fallen greatly within the past 2 years. Many scientists believe we are about to go through another little ice age.

Many scientists are skeptical about Anthropogenic Global Warming.

Al Gore had a chart in his movie "An Inconvenient Truth" that showed the similarities of Carbon Dioxide and temperature. The thing that he doesn't tell you is that there is a gap in which the temperature rises before the CO2 which should be the exact opposite if his theory is correct. Watch “The Great Global Warming Swindle”

Polar bears are NOT being endangered but actually the exact opposite.

That is my point of view on the issue and I strongly encourage you to watch "The Great Global Warming Swindle" (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=... all the way through even if you don't want to. It is a great source of information and if you want to know the truth, you need to see both sides of the story.

  2. Yes solar panels are available ,but look at the cost. U will need batteries ,and voltage regulators and in some areas there is not enough sun during winter.

  3. Reducing your need for power is much cheaper than producing more power.   Install double pane glass windows and insulate your house firsts.   Install energy efficient appliances and those dreaded light bulbs.   Install a solar water heater or preheater.   When everything else is done, buy some photovoltaic panels to produce electricity.

  4. Solar energy is the energy of the future. Currently it is very expensive for the general public to have it in their own homes, but in a couple of years it will be very affordable. There are new technologies in solar panels that are just getting started. Check out this web site: http://nanosolar.com/about.htm. This company "Nanosolar" has just started selling solar panels that $1/watt. Some of the companies investing in it include IBM and Google.

There are many reasons for the human society to get out of the oil economy and it is not only global warming which is still debatable. Some of these include less global conflicts, healthier air, local economical independence, less cancer, less asama, less pollutants in water we all drink and rivers. I would love to produce my own electricity and not have to pay for it or depend on others to produce it for me. I would not like to be in a black out.

Solar energy is only good during the day, but there are other technologies that are starting up that will resolve that issue. Hydragen is one of them. We are very close to having a hydrogen station in our garages that could use solar energy during the day to produce and store and use it at night to power your home and your automobile. Check out this web site: http://world.honda.com/FuelCell/FCX/stat... & http://www.honda.com/solar-cell/

And check out this hidragen car that will start selling to public of South California this summer: http://www.honda.com/fuel-cell/

Solar energy and hydrogen technology will allow individuals to produce their own energy. Energy for free. That is the quest. This will give individuals and societies freedom from corporate price gauging. In the USA we have become too dependant in the oil industry. We are at a point where they can charge what ever they like and there is nothing an individual can do.

All we need in USA right now is the Democrats to take over the politics run by the oil industry and start investing in other forms of energy. If USA spent $500 Billion in green energy research instead of an oil war this country could be in a much better place right now.

  5. Just as soon as Solar panels provide electricity as cheaply and reliably as our current generation methods, I will give it some consideration.

    Additional info from jc-solarhomes.com:

"ELECTRICITY: We’ll need to produce 15,000KWH’s to meet our yearly household electrical requirements.  That’s about 40KWH per day. Since an average of 4KWH/day is available we’ll need a 10KW system to meet our yearly electrical requirements.  The electricity produced by this 10KW system would have a value of about $4.00/day and require about twenty five 2 m2  panels that would occupy a surface area in excess of 600 square feet. An installed system like this could easily cost $100,000 at $10/watt. Incentive rebates could cut this cost in half, but even at a cost of $5/watt the payback period would be about 30 years. If your good friends with an electrical contractor or if you do your own work you might be able to do a little better, but this is still a major investment for a product that has a live expectancy of 20 years. "

  6. nice rant but wrong....solar cost much more then oil/gas/coal for electrictly...and to provide the elect th US uses you would have to cover 1/4 of the country....

  7. Well, it's definitely important. It's hard to ignore that the cost of oil per barrel has gone up and the need to find alternative energy sources is important. There's wind energy, hydroelectric power, biogas and lastly solar power. Since sun power is readily available, harnassing the energy is easy. From homes to vehicles and even apparels, solar power has made an impact to our society. And definitely can make good business and non-pollutive too!

  8. Dont listen to all the people who say solar is too expensive and that oil or gas is a better option.

Yes solar is CURRENTLY very expensive if you use the glass panels that are made with silicon. Its new solar technology that we need to focus on. More money needs to be spend on new ways of capturing solar energy.

Printable Solar Panels! Cheap and easy to make.

    http://www.nanosolar.com/

There are also other ways to use solar energy besides panels.  Some technologies focus mirrors on materials that are naturally good at storing heat, then those materials heat up to temperatures that can generate steam which run turbines.

Solar energy is the future. If its not worth it economically now its because enough hasnt been invested into it.

All the energy on the planet comes from the sun in some way, all the food you eat, all the energy stored in gas and oil, its all from the sun.

We just need more efficient ways of capturing and storing this energy.

  9. yep, you're right about that! i'm hoping in my new place i will be able to afford the start up for something like that.

  10. i believe the sun is a fantastic energy source. however, solar power is still very dynamic and expensive because oil companies are refusing to allow much experiementation with it - at least not enough to be able to provide the masses with it cheaply - that is why solar panels are so expensive. once oil etc runs out, we will have no problem as the oil giants will then turn to the sun/water/wind and make their money off that. the same with eco-cars cars etc - they exist, theyre cheap to run and they work - but oil companies cannot afford to have people using them on a large scale yet.

i am eco-friendly and try to do my bit, but i believe global warming is only a problem for the earth as we know it. we will probably all die out, along with all the animals and plant life. we will destroy our oceans, mountains and atmosphere, but Mother Earth will renew herself. it will take millions of years but coal, oil, gas etc will eventually be renewed for new life forms.

i am eco-friendly because i believe in treating the earth with respect, and bringing my children up with as sustainable an environment as possible. however i don't stress about it and demand everyone does the same, or reduce my quality of life to be eco (although in many ways it is improved). global warming may be happening but we are only slightly speeding up what is anyway a natural process - we are still due ice ages, dark ages, etc. are us humans really big headed enough to think we are the be-all and end-all of planet earth?

i think we can all do our bit to make our children's lives, our wildlife and our environment be as healthy as possible. we should encourage the use of renewable energy but i dont believe it will make any difference to the future of either the earth or the life forms already on it.
