  1. hundreds of People have switched to solar power in Scotland and it works very well

  2. Check my link to see more info about solar pannels

  3. As an extra source of power yes, especially in the summer months. Winter days are very short in Scotland.

Wind power could also be used but you will probably still need the national grid or some other source of power ie a generator.

  4. the germans are using it very well.

  5. Solar will work almost anywhere, but would not be very effective in Scotland most of the time because of many long nights and lots of cloudy days.

It would be VERY expensive power and not very reliable.

  6. It depends what you are trying to do with the power.

There is less light in West Scotland than in some places in the world where Solar energy is extremely viable. Therefore you will either produce less power or will need more panels to produce the same power.

If you are trying to run your household, it probably won't work without a large bank of panels. This will be costly, and you will have to balance that against the cost of normal electricity. If you are trying to heat some water, then possibly, again it depends how much. Every little helps.

Your better option as someone has already pointed out is probably wind turbines. These are getting cheaper, and I believe that there may be council grants available (of course, this depends on where you actually live).

With the shorter hours of sunlight in the winter, when I use most electricity (I live in Kyle) solar would not be an option. Wind however, never stops, especially in the winter.

    Good luck, and Go Green
