What is the best roof type? Of course you should start with a good or new roof. Daily pollution & bird droppings will hurt capacity, so do you need access for a regular cleaning & maintenance program. Are these and other questions addressed when planning solar panel conversions?

  1. I'm not sure what type of roof is best but I'd say the roof would be better if it was slanted. This way the sun can hit it at an angle. That's just my opinion though and I'm not even sure if it's right as someone else has said you need a flat roof. The main thing is that you pick a point on the roof where the sun hits the most and for the longest. I have solar pipes on my roof, which are alot more sensitive and are better in colder climates where you don't get much sun. The temperature in my tank today is 45 degrees Celsius, and in the summer it goes up to 75. Also make sure when you are planning solar heating that nothing is blocking the sunlight, such as trees or neighboring houses.

    Hope this helps :)

  2. I would say, first of all put solar panels on roofs that do not leak any water. That way regularly you could rinse off the panels every once in awhile. After a few months or so, I recommend you go up there and wash the panels to keep them nice and shiny. I dont think water will hurt solar panels.

  3. what they dont tell you about solar panel is that over 10,000 panels were damaged or destroyed in the midwest last year by hail.

over 5000 were damaged by snow last winter

many insurance companies do not cover damage to solar panel by hail or snow

panels should be mounted at a 35 degs facing the sun at noon.

  4. Solar Panel are best when placed on a flat roof. The weight is about 5 lbs. a panel and these panel snap into place. They can be removed very easily and yes you can clean them if you care to with a squiggy. Normally the rain will wash them suitably where this is not a problem.

Yes, you need a good roof but not necessarily a new roof. In fact the roofing you have will be protected by the panels as the UV rays from the sun will not hit the roofing. Hope this helps you.

  5. I have solar panels to heat my swimming pool. I had considered using them for all my hot water but I don´t find them cost effective. I didn´t get any grants to install them, I paid myself. I have had all sorts of problems with them

  6. i dont know.
