Question:

Solar Sun Rings for the pool~ Do they work?

I need to replace the solar cover on my pool this year, and at my local pool store they are selling solar sun rings. This is the first year they have sold them locally and I am wondering if they work or am I wasting $400+ to cover my pool? Would I be better with a regular solar cover? which is great at heating the pool up, but weighs a ton weight trying to get the thing off my pool.

  1. We have 6 of the 5' solar rings plus 2 circular 12' solar blankets (the "cheap" ones from the hardware store).  Do they work - not sure how to test that...  They cover the pool and let light through and keep the water under cover, therefore they should keep the heat, chlorine, and evaporation controlled.  Our last pool had a full custom cover and was also very difficult to work with.  The two 12' rings are much easier to roll up and manage with 1 person, and then the 6 smaller rings fill in the gaps and are also easy to manage.  Our solar rings have little magnets at intervals around the edges so they stick together and to the sides of the pool.  I think they work - at least a lot easier to manage.
