What would happen if I hooked up a 6v 70 milliamp solar panel to 4 rechargeable 1.2v each 90ma AA batteries?

  1. as long as they are in series, they will charge, but remember,there is no trickle charge here,you may overcharge them

A 6 volt solar panel would charge the batteries from dead to 6 volts in approximately 3 hours.  It will start charging at 70 milliamps, but as the battery voltage increases the current will decrease.  When the voltage of the batteries reaches the voltage of the solar panel no more current will flow.

    However, most 6 volt solar panels deliver more than 6 volts, so it could cook your batteries if left too long.  You would need a voltmeter to monitor the progress.

    If the batteries are rechargeable type, they are not supposed to reach 1.5 volts each, more like 1.35 volts.  Four in series should be 5.4 volts.  So the 6 volt panel would definitely cook them if you left it too long.
