  1. The next total solar eclipse in Australia will occur on Nov 14, 2012 and be visible in far North East of Northern Territory, and parts of North Queensland. Says so here:

  2. Hi Marissa!

The next total eclipse of the sun anywhere in Australia is the morning of November 14, 2012.  It's total only in the far north of Queensland, including Cairns, and the coast of Arnhem Land, N.T., however.  The rest of the continent sees a partial eclipse early that spring morning, although on the west coast they'll see only a nip out of the sun just as the partial eclipse ends at sunrise.

(I saw that some writers are giving the date as November 13th, but that's the time east of the International Date line, according to Greenwich Mean Time.  In Australia, it is definitely the morning of the 14th.)

Six months later, May 10, 2013, there's another eclipse, this time an annular eclipse of the sun, across the interior of the Northern Territory and, remarkably, some of the same places in far northern Queensland (but not Cairns) lie in the path of annularity just after seeing the previous November's total eclipse.  The rest of Australia except the west coast sees a partial eclipse that morning.

The Australian continent is remarkably blessed with five total eclipses of the sun between 2012 and 2038.  Just about every populated area except on Tasmania will either lie in the path of totality or be within a couple hours drive of a total eclipse within the next thirty years.

If you can't wait until then, most of Australia sees a partial eclipse in the early evening of Monday, January 26th, 2009.  On the east coast, you'll only see the eclipse start a few minutes before the sun is setting, but at places like Carnarvon, at the northwest corner of Western Australia, as much as half the solar disc will be covered around 6:15 p.m. Western Summer Time.

  4. The next partial eclipse in Australia will be on 26th January 2009. It will be visible over tha whole of Australia, but not Tasmania. The tables are turned for the next partial eclipse on 25th November 2011 when Tasmania is the only place in Australia to see the eclipse.

The important one will be on 13th November 2012, when a total eclipse will be visible in the Northern Territory and Queensland. There is a map at: http://xjubier.free.fr/en/site_pages/sol...
