  1. Additional to the above, when your house is not using much power during the day (say its empty and everyone is at work) the electricity you generate is actually fed into the power grid and your electricity service provider has to credit you!

  2. Anywhere in Australia or Tasmania you could generate enough power to run a house from just the roof.

If you use the surplus heat that a PV panel must get rid of, you will have all the hot water you need without dipping into generated electricity.

  3. Try this link:

    http://www.web-view.net/Show/0XE9F61FAFA...

It's from Israel National News ("arutz Sheva") featuring how a world-class architect has designed completely solar-powered homes for Israel to build in the Negev, which is hot & dry -- sounds like they can run for months on one day's sunshine !

If that link doesn't work, I apologise & suggest you search at www.israelnationalnews.com for the article from Nov. 22, 2007 .

also, check out the Yahoo Group 12VDC_Power , they can advise you on the hands-on logistics .

    Good luck!

  4. Make sure you include a thermosiphon solar hot water system.  In the design you need no pump and no electricity to make the hot water.

Also look into windmill generators to supplement your power use at night and days with no sun.

  5. Have a look at this site it has loads of info on renewable energy and a great section for free info on what you can do.
