I've spoken to a few companies doing solar installs and the pay is similar to an electrician or HVAC installer. With an emphasis on experience so new installers will make quite a bit less than journeymen.

Obviously there are certifications you obtain and some companies offer growth into the commission based sales/installs as your best way to increase your earnings.

Demand for the occupation does depends on the area and current incentives - NJ and CA are good examples of states are are pushing for solar installer and companies are springing up to provide fill the need.
