Question:

Solar planet?

can anyone tell me the orientation of the solar planet according to the three dimensional coordinates?

if my question isn't clear then follow some examples:

-is the sun lie above the earth and what about other planet with respect to earth?

-how did the planets revolve around the sun?

  1. Sun is not "above" Earth.

    Earth orbits around the Sun like all planets of the solar system do.

  3. Think about it like this. You have a ride in an amusement park with swings attached to arms that revolve around the center. Think of the center as the Sun and the individual swings as planets. When the ride first starts, the swings are at different levels. Some are higher and some are lower. As the ride picks up speed the gravity forces increase until eventually all of the swings are in line because they are at the same distance from the center. If they were further away, then it would take longer to settle into that plane that the rest of the swings were on. Which perhaps is why Pluto is off of the solar plane.

    When the solar system was young it is possible that these planets were revolving around the Sun at different planes but eventually settled into the plane at which the gravity forces were greatest.

  4. While orbiting our sun, most of the planets in our solar system follow the same plane, called the ecliptic.  

    Think of our solar system as a flat dinner plate.  If you looked at the plate from the top, the sun would be in the middle, and the planets would orbit around it, moving counter-clockwise.  

    If you looked at it from the side, the sun would still be in the middle, and most of the planet's orbits would be "in" the plate, not above or below it, as they orbited around the sun.  

    Pluto's orbit is highly inclined (18 degrees I think) so if our solar system were viewed from the side, part of the time Pluto would be above and part of the time below the plane.  

    Another interesting note;  most of the planets are pretty much "up/down" with regards to how their poles line up with the plane.  You know of course that Earth is tilted 23 degrees, so as it spins around the sun it's tipped over just a bit.  

    Uranus and Pluto, however, are tipped on their sides.
