I just recently sold my vehicle but I did not turn in the pink slip notifying the DMV. . Turns out the new owner just got into a car accident where he hit and ran. Who is held liable for the damages if they cant find the driver? The only person that comes out is me as the registered owner. Please Help.

  1. If you have no proof of selling the car and you didn't notify the DMV, I think that you're going to be liable for the accident.

You should contact the DMV and/or the police department because this is now a criminal case because the new owner hit and ran. If someone was hurt or worse, killed, that's a felony.

And since your name is still listed as the car's owner, all fingers point to you.

  2. You will be held responsible.  I guess there is no need to tell you now, what you already know.  That is: always do a sale or transfer the legal way to avoid a whole world of hurt.

  3. You need to prove that you sold the vehicle and you probably want to have done it correctly. If you signed all the paperwork correctly and perhaps just have not turned it in, I'd do so yesterday. As long as you can show that the sale was done correctly and perhaps the paperwork just was not turned in yet, you should be fine. I'd recommend that you report the information to your insurance company asap so that they can provide you a defense if needed/possible.

  4. doesn't sound to good. did you at least get a bill of sale for a notary.
